Fast Facts About the Guadalupe River

The 230-mile river begins in Kerr County and flows through the Gulf of Mexico.

The Guadalupe River is the primary water supply for the City of New Braunfels.

The river got its name from Alonso de Leon in 1689, who coined the name after Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The first German settlement in Texas settled on the river in New Braunfels in 1844, hence the rich German heritage in the city.

The river cuts through tall limestone bluffs and towering cypress trees flowing lazily, though there are occasional rapids.
